Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is eyeing Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij.

The Holland international only moved to Lazio last summer from Feyenoord, having played for Van Gaal during the World Cup.

TMW says Van Gaal has had De Vrij scouted several times this season, the latest being the Coppa Italia tie against Napoli.

However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito is adamant he doesn't want to lose De Vrij this summer.

But he does expect United to test his resolve for the Dutch defender when the close-season transfer window opens.
