Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits social media is now part of football.

Social media did not exist when Van Gaal started managing over 20 years ago, but such is the popularity of sites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, he cannot afford to ignore it.

"You can read everything now," the United boss said.

"Because of that I have to handle it. I have to manage it.

"You have to accept it and adapt to it. You cannot ignore it. My players also have to adapt to this kind of world.

"The media was always there (before) but the social media was not there."
