Man Utd boss Moyes defends size of Rooney contract

Manchester United boss David Moyes has defended the size of Wayne Rooney's new £300,000-a-week deal.

Moyes was quick to defend the decision to keep his star striker at the club - at an enormous cost.

He said: "Look at the money which is being brought into the game through the television revenue. Look at the amount of people which football employs now.

"The people who are right at the top are people like Wayne Rooney. That is why they are the best paid. Look at the money generated by a club like Manchester United which fills its stadium, which does the best commercial work anywhere at all. People want to be connected.

"If you come to Manchester United and you play and take that responsibility, you are going to be close to being one of the best-paid players."
