Man Utd boss Ferguson: Man City need to win that first trophy

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester City need to win a first trophy of they're to be regarded as genuine rivals.

Back in 1990, Fergie tasted success for the first time as Manchester United manager when they beat Crystal Palace in an FA Cup final replay.

He has not looked back since, lifting a pot a further 33 times - while his old rivals down the road have had to watch on enviously.

Ferguson said: "Winning the first trophy at any level is important.

"I've experienced that at Aberdeen, St Mirren and here. Winning in 1990 was a big moment for us but we were confident.

"It was a fantastic final, one of the better ones, 3-3, and we won the replay."
