Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is serious about landing Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.
The News of the World says the Barcelona striker told club president Joan Laporta he'd be leaving the Nou Camp just hours before Manchester City ended their interest.
That left Manchester United with a clear run at the Cameroon international and they are ready to offer him a four-year deal on £150,000-a-week.
Eto'o is also seeking more money based on appearances and goals.
Agent Jose Maria Masalles said: "At 28 he wants to join a club which will give him another chance of winning trophies.
"It can't be just about money. It has to be about the sporting project."
United will make it clear they will not be kept waiting and will not increase their offer.
