Man Utd ace Rooney wants to be England's greatest

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits being England's greatest goalscorer is on his agenda.

He has 36 England goals: four behind Michael Owen, eight behind Jimmy Greaves, 12 behind Gary Lineker and 13 behind Sir Bobby Charlton who tops the all-time charts with 49. It will help Rooney's pursuit if he is at the World Cup next year.

"I can be the first to 50," said Rooney, a fortnight away from his 28th birthday. "I've been scoring for England, but to be honest I'm actually a bit disappointed with my record. I feel I should have scored more.

"If I keep playing, scoring and trying to help the team I can get to that 50-goal mark, which would be an unbelievable achievement. There's a long way to go but it's an aim and I want to try and do it."
