Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was missing his son during England's dismal World Cup campaign.
The News of the World says Rooney admitted he was missing his son Kai during an emotionally-charged World Cup call to Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Manchester United striker struggled to find the 43-goal form that turned him into one of the world's most feared forwards. Ferguson spoke with Rooney during the tournament and he admitted that he struggled to be away from his new-born son.
Baby Kai is just over six months old and Rooney admitted it was difficult to be away from his son for such a long period.
England's management were aware of Rooney's problems, but were convinced he could cope during the tournament.
Rooney failed to recapture the form that turned him into a contender for World Player of the Year before the tournament.
