Man City youngster Lacey enjoying Vieira-endorsed NYCFC experience

Manchester City young gun Shay Lacey admits his time spent with New York City FC could not have gone better.

The 20-year old defender has been training with the MLS expansion franchise during their stay at the City Football Academy and has impressed so much that he managed to gain a start in their 2-0 friendly win over St Mirren on Tuesday.

Lacey has been enjoying his time under NYCFC head coach Jason Kreis and has revealed that he and Elite Development Squad coach Patrick Vieira felt it was a great opportunity for him to really take a big step forward with his growth as a footballer.

"Patrick and I spoke about it with my representative and we discussed how it could be a good step for me to progress onwards," Facey told the club's official website.

"Everyone's different and everyone needs different things in different times for their progression but for me, it's been great to train with players who are quite physical and of a high standard.

"The style is very similar to what I'm used to at City too, because Jason likes to have lots of possession and pass out from the back a lot - which is really helpful for me. What Jason asks us to do is not too alien to anybody so everyone's catching on to it and I think it's working well, playing that style of football."
