Manchester City and Tottenham are being linked with Real Madrid's Bosman prospect Fabio Cannavaro.
The Mirror says the World Cup winner's £4m-a-year contract at Real Madrid ends in the summer and his likely pay demands have scared off a number of clubs.
But money is be no object for City, while Spurs boss Harry Redknapp intends to recruit Bosman signings for next season.
