Manchester City defender Micah Richards is in doubt for Sunday's derby with Manchester United after being struck down with tonsillitis.

Mark Hughes is already missing some big names including Carlos Tevez, Robinho and Emmanuel Adebayor for the clash and if Richards goes down it may make life more difficult.

But the good news is that Richards resumed light training and is being given every chance to overcome his illness.

City's medical staff are optimistic about the defender's chances of turning out for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest Manchester derby's on record.
