Man City's Lescott replaces Tottenham's Dawson in England squad

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has been brought in to replace Michael Dawson in Roy Hodgson's England squad.

The Tottenham centre-back Dawson injured his hamstring in the first half of today's 1-0 loss to Fulham and will not be a part of the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers against San Marino in Serravalle on March 22 and Montenegro in Podgorica four days later.

"He felt his (hamstring) muscle going in the first half," said Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

"If we had brought him on in the second half we would be risking him a major injury.

"I think Michael will be assessed by the England team doctors, they will be in communication with our medical department to find out if he will make it or not. He probably won't, but it's something that they have to decide between them."
