Man City's Hughes comfortable with missed penalty decision

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says he is comfortable with the penalty decision made by referee Alan Wiley in the 1-1 draw with Wigan on Sunday. In the second half, City's Shaun Wright-Phillips appeared to be fouled by Wigan's Maynor Figueroa in the area and although Hughes thought it should have been a penalty, he was happy with Wiley's positioning to make the call.

"I thought it was a nailed-on penalty but in fairness to Mr Wiley he was right on the spot and had kept up with play," Hughes said.

"He had the opportunity to make a good decision but maybe in his defence he though the defender had knocked the ball into touch when in fact it was Wright-Phillips.

"It was an obvious penalty but these things happen very fast. I have no criticism of Alan Wiley's athleticism today."

Wiley has come under criticism from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for his apparent lack of fitness but on this occasion, he was on the ball.
