Man City's Chelsea icon Lampard happy to share PFA award with Liverpool legend Gerrard

Frank Lampard was full of praise for Steven Gerrard after the pair were honoured at the PFA awards night in London on Sunday.

The Manchester City midfielder, who made a name for himself at Chelsea, was handed the PFA Merit award alongside Liverpool great Gerrard for their contribution to English football.

The duo will leave the Premier League to join MLS clubs New York City FC and LA Galaxy respectively in the summer but before he departed England's top flight, Lampard wanted to applaud the career of his former England teammate.

"I'm pleased - it is a great honour," he said.

"I have been fortunate enough to have a long time playing in the Premier League - along with Steven it is a great honour to be alongside a player who himself has done so much for the game.

"For the two of us to get it, it is a nice send-off and a nice ending for me.

"I have got a huge amount of respect for Steven - we had a few ding-dongs up and down the years, we seemed to play each other five or six times a season when the Champions League was involved."
