Man City opt for realistic approach in transfer window

Manchester City may have a reported £540m war chest for the transfer window, but boss Mark Hughes has warned fans not to expect all signings to be star players. "The acquisition of Robinho was a huge statement and it was exactly what the owners wanted at that time," Hughes said.

"We are looking for targets who will help the balance of the team and help the squad.

"Although there are a lot of players out there that people get very excited about and, huge stars in certain positions, they may well not be in the position that we need to strengthen in.

"There has to be a little bit of realism, in as much, that people have an understanding which positions we'll go for, and which areas of the squad we need to strengthen."
