Manchester City are keen to sign Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard to a short-term deal. The Mirror says City will try to persuade Lampard to break his promise never to play for another Premier League club.
New York City FC have a deal in place with Lampard, but the new club's campaign, however, does not kick off until March 2015 and Lampard - set to be released by Chelsea this month - will need to play in the meantime.
City are hoping he will stage a U-turn and improve their English quota with Micah Richards, Jack Rodwell, Gareth Barry, Scott Sinclair and Joleon Lescott leaving.
