Manchester City are looking to make a surprise swoop for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho during the upcoming summer. Having performed below expectations this year, Premier League champions City are expected to splash big money on new players to reinvigorate their squad during the summer and names such as Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere have already started being linked with the Citizens in recent weeks.

Now according to the Daily Star, it has been claimed that City are also planning an ambitious swoop to sign Reds ace Coutinho.

The Brazilian has flourished into one of the finest young playmakers in the Premier League since making a move to Anfield from Inter Milan back in 2013 and now City are hoping to lure the 22-year old to the Etihad Stadium next season as Samir Nasri looks set to depart the club.

City are said to be planning a £20million bid for Coutinho but the move will hinge on whether or not Liverpool are able to qualify for the Champions League.
