Man City needed UEFA 'permission' to complete Bony deal

Manchester City needed UEFA's 'permission' to sign Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony last month.

UEFA made sure to run the rule over the mega bucks transfer after City's breaking of financial fair pay laws last year.

City have spent £91m on Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando, Willy Caballero, Bruno Zuculini and Bony.

But they have recouped £50m. Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia have been sold, while Alvaro Negredo's switch to Valencia included a £3m loan fee with a guaranteed £24m due at the end of the season.

A City insider, in reaction to complaints from Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, told the Mirror: "There is no question that we have complied with the spending cap imposed by UEFA and for anyone to suggest otherwise is nonsense.

"As the sale of Negredo to Valencia is guaranteed, we checked with UEFA that we were able to include the proceeds of the transfer in our calculations and were assured it was fine do so so.

"Perhaps Jose Mourinho needs to take maths classes."
