Man City leave Hargreaves off Champions League squad list

Manchester City signing Owen Hargreaves has not made their Champions League squad.

The Telegraph says despite being handed a 12-month deal at the Etihad Stadium after passing a medical on Tuesday, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has omitted Hargreaves from his Champions League squad, submitted to Uefa last night, with the player still regarded to be at least 4-6 weeks away from challenging for first-team selection.

With Uefa also imposing a quota system of home-grown players being named in Champions League squads, Mancini has chosen to allow Hargreaves to regain full fitness without the burden of having to make himself available for the group fixtures against former club Bayern, Villarreal and Napoli.

City sources have stressed, however, that the squad will be reviewed in January when Hargreaves is expected to be a fully fit member of the squad.
