Manchester City are launching a bid for Benfica defender David Luiz.
The Sun says Roberto Mancini will make £10.5million Germany star Jerome Boateng, 21, his first summer signing from Hamburg on Thursday.
But the Italian is still looking to strengthen his backline further.
And he sees Brazilian Luiz, 23, as an interesting option.
Like Boateng, he can play as a full-back or central defender.
The problem for City boss Mancini is that he will not want to meet Benfica's £40m buy-out clause.
Luiz has impressed for the Portuguese giants and has also attracted interest from Chelsea.
