Manchester City are not ready to release Gareth Barry for loan with Everton just yet.
The Daily Mail says City will wait to see if they receive any rival bids for Barry before allowing the England midfielder to join Everton on loan.
Everton want to take Barry on a season-long loan but it is understood that City would prefer a permanent sale because the player is in the final year of his contract and a loan deal will be of little benefit to them.
They are prepared to wait until late in the transfer window to see if there are any bids for Barry, who was has already been linked with Arsenal and his old club Aston Villa this summer.
If Barry is allowed to move to Goodison Park, the issue of how much each club will pay towards his £100,000-a-week wages could also prove to be a stumbling block.
