Man City have sights set on second - Fernandinho

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho insists the team is fully focused on securing second spot in the Premier League.

Fernandinho scored the winner in a nervy 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday which propelled the Citizens back into second place and the Brazilian suggests that will be their best possible finish as the title is basically a foregone conclusion for leaders Chelsea.

"For the players, the most important thing is to be champions, but everyone knows how difficult that is," said Fernandinho in the Manchester Evening News.

"Chelsea are a lot of points in front of us, but we will try to take second ahead of Arsenal and United - just taking second is our target, whether that is in front of United or whoever.

"It would make our fans happy - I am sure they wanted us to win the title, but now if we can finish in front of Arsenal and United they may be happier at the end of the season."

City currently sit level on points with third-placed Arsenal but the Gunners have a game in hand.
