Manchester City defender Micah Richards will not return until the end of January.

The diagnosis comes despite manager Roberto Mancini's claim that the knee injury he ­sustained against Swansea last month would only sideline him for four weeks.

Richards had a cartilage ­operation, and although it was a success, he has been advised by his specialist that he needs 12 weeks of rehabilitation.
