Man City boss Pellegrini eager for injury woes to ease

Manuel Pellegrini was able to field a very strong starting XI for Wednesday night's Champions League Round of 16 first leg at Dynamo Kiev.

City have been battling injuries to key players in recent times but managed to get the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero on the park at the same time as they defeated Dynamo 3-1 in Ukraine.

It was a pleasing result for Pellegrini who will now look ahead to Sunday's Capital One Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley after putting out a quality eleven in Europe's premier club competition.

"It's important," said Pellegrini of fielding a strong XI.

"Unfortunately for us, we have just 13 players fit - we had four defenders and two young players on the bench.

"It was important to have key players back but it's also important to have a squad which allows you to make some changes.

"It is difficult to do so in this moment - especially in attack - but I hope in the next week, a couple of players will return."

The likes of Wilfried Bony, Jesus Navas, Fabian Delph, Samir Nasri and Kevin De Bruyne are all due back in the coming month or so as City get set for an assault on both the Premier League title and the Champions League.
