Man City boss Hughes wary of buying Euro talent

New Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is wary of buying players on the basis of their performance in Euro 2008.

The Blues manager is keeping an eye on events in Austria and Switzerland to monitor the progress of his own players and any potential transfer targets, but he is not about to splash out on the basis of two or three eye-catching performances.

Hughes told the club's official website: "You can make mistakes at tournaments, if someone comes to the fore in two or three games your judgement can be clouded. But, there are good players on view and if possible, because there's a lot of work to do here, I would like to get out to the latter stages and see some games first hand."

As well as Croatia's Vedran Corluka, City's Elano, Nery Castillo and Felipe Caicedo are in action further afield in the World Cup qualifiers.

Hughes added: "We'll keep an eye on them as well, our medical staff keep in touch with the various national associations if there are any problems."
