Man City boss Guardiola wanted to play Bayern Munich keeper Neuer in midfield - Rummenigge

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed that former boss Pep Guardiola wanted to play Manuel Neuer in midfield.

Guardiola, who is now at Manchester City, is said to have wanted to select the German international keeper as a central midfielder for one Bundesliga game.

However, Rummenigge believes that it would have resulted in an outcry from fans and other teams, saying Bayern were picking teams unprofessionally.

"After securing the league title, Pep Guardiola seriously came up with the idea of starting Manuel Neuer in midfield for a game," Rummenigge told Bayern magazine '51'.

"Only after a big effort, I could stop Pep from doing it, because it might have been interpreted as arrogance.

"However, I am convinced that Manu would have done well in midfield too. It would have been an interesting experiment."
