Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admitted he had little logic or reasoning behind the decision to recall Phil Foden.
City brought back Foden and Kyle Walker into their starting lineup against Chelsea on Thursday.
However, Walker and fellow full-back Joao Cancelo were both hooked by Guardiola at half time, in a game City eventually won 1-0.
“Before every game you guys ask me the reason why, sometimes is not a specific reason why," Guardiola told Sky Sports.
“I want to rotate the team, get everyone involved.
“Sometimes I pay attention for the opponent, sometimes for the tactics or the quality of the players we have, I don't care for the tactics today.
“There's not one specific reason I decide. Since I arrived, I'm not a guy who plays 11 players every time. Because you cannot handle the locker room.
“When the players don't play they have to have the feeling they can play at a certain level. It's not nice."
