Manchester City are launching a bid for their conqueror Edinson Cavani after defeat at Napoli this week. The Daily Star says City boss Roberto Mancini has made Cavani his No.1 target to replace rebel striker Carlos Tevez at the Etihad Stadium.
City have opened talks with Cavani's agent in the hope of landing the Uruguayan international in the January transfer window.
The Blues' chief Italian scout and fixer Barry Hunter met Cavani's representative Claudio Anelluci in Rome to discuss a deal.
The pair spent several hours in a restaurant discussing the chances of Mancini luring Cavani to the Premier League leaders and big-spenders.
