Magath "disappointed and surprised" by Fulham sacking

Felix Magath insists he didn't see his sacking by Fulham yesterday.

The Championship club announced on their official website confirmed chairman Shahid Khan had acted following the Cottagers' dismal start to the campaign, with under-21 coach Kit Symons taking up the reins on a caretaker basis.

Magath, speaking in a statement via German news agency DPA, said: "I am disappointed and surprised, because I am sure that I would have stopped the downfall of the club with drastic changes in the squad to a young team, although the first results of the season have not shown this."

He later tweeted: "I want to thank all those amazing Fulham fans for their tremendous support during the last months. I'm very sorry our work didn't lead to better results.

"I enjoyed every single day to work for this club & want to wish Fulham all the best."
