The messy Iker Casillas situation has left Madrid with a division, according to incoming manager Rafa Benitez.
Casillas was controversially dumped by his boyhood club of 25 years, with strong criticism directed at Madrid president Florentino Perez over the club's treatment of the Bernebeau legend.
Benitez said Casillas was the first person he spoke to when he took over the reigns as Real Madrid manager in June.
"When I first got the job, he was the first person I called," Benitez said.
"We have had many discussions. We talked about, in person, certain scenarios that could happen. I wish him all the best for the future.
"I do not like the division which is happening at Real Madrid right now, and that is something that must be put behind us."
