Wigan will not be offering Modeste M'Bami a contract after the club and player failed to agree to terms.
The Cameroon international has been on trial with the Latics in the last two weeks and was set to sign with Roberto Martinez's side but wanted a long-term deal whereas the club was keen to start him off with a shorter contract.
The 26-year old former Marseille midfielder has also had unsuccessful trials with Portsmouth, Bolton and Wolves and it is understood he will now venture to Spain to try his luck with Almeria in a bid to gain regular first team football leading into next year's World Cup.
