Lyon coach Bruno Genesio is pleased with Memphis Depay's response to being dropped this season.

The former Manchester United attacker hit a hat-trick against Troyes on the weekend.

Genesio told RMC: "I do not know if I can say that I shook him, but I had good discussions with him.

"In recent times, he has sometimes been out of the squad, sometimes a substitute and I think it has been beneficial. He questioned himself and it is true that in training, he is a different player from what we saw at the beginning of the season. I'm glad he was rewarded with his three goals, which is very important for an attacker, but I'm also happy with his involvement in the game, the structure of the team with him.

"It has been very interesting and he has to continue like that."
