Another goalscoring record tumbled for Lionel Messi as he became the record goalscorer in Champions League history last night.
He led Barcelona to a 4-0 victory over APOEL Nicosia.
After Luis Suarez had opened the scoring with his first goal for Barca, Messi struck for the 72nd time in the competition, in the process eclipsing the haul of former Real Madrid star Raul, and then added two more to set up a grandstand finish to Group F.
"It's quite a feat to keep your opponent almost completely away from your own goal area for the entire first half. It's pretty satisfying," coach Luis Enrique declared.
"If we had let up a bit, they would have come at us harder. Apoel showed at Camp Nou and against both PSG and Ajax that they're tough to beat."
