LOAN WATCH: Walsall to extend stay of Leicester's Cain

Walsall are close to extending the loan spell of Leicester City midfielder Michael Cain.

The 20-year old joined the League One side from the Foxes in October on an initial one-month deal which was extended by a further month in November.

Now, Saddlers boss Dean Smith is hoping he can have Cain into the New Year following the youngster's integral contribution in their six-game unbeaten run.

"We are in advanced talks about keeping him for an extra month and, hopefully, that can be done before the weekend," Smith told the Express & Star of Cain who has made 11 appearances for Walsall.

"His loan is up after the game at Sheffield United and Leicester were keen to get it done, so it is just a case of getting the paperwork sorted. He has done really well.

"Michael has been an important cog for us over the last two months."
