LOAN WATCH: Man City midfielder Mooy scores stunner as Huddersfield stay top

Huddersfield Town stayed top of the Championship table with a 1-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday.

The Terriers edged their rivals in the Yorkshire derby at Elland Road thanks to a second-half goal from Aaron Mooy.

The Australian midfielder, on loan from Manchester City, opened up his scoring account for Huddersfield and in English football by producing a thunderous strike from range in the 55th minute.

Mooy had earlier been booked for a late challenge on Liam Bridcutt but responded positively to give David Wagner's side a fifth victory in six matches this season which has the West Yorkshire club sitting on top of the table, four points clear of second-placed Newcastle United.

Huddersfield boss Wagner admitted that Mooy's challenge on Bridcutt would certainly have been a sending off in his native Germany.

"In England no red card. Germany, red card," he said.

"But we are not in Germany, we are in England. This is what I've learned. This was a pretty hard, British challenge.

"It came too late, but I didn't think for one second it would be a red card because I've been 10 months now in British football and I know, this was not okay, he was too late. Yellow."

Nevertheless, Mooy was the man of the moment as he fired home the stunning winner to continue his impressive start to life in England's second tier.

Liverpool loanee Danny Ward kept a second straight clean sheet for Huddersfield while Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer came off the bench late in the contest.

Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley played a full 90 minutes for Leeds.
