LOAN PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: West Ham teenager Samuelsen piling on the class for Peterborough

Martin Samuelsen's second goal of his loan spell at Peterborough United helped the Posh secure a win over Championship side Preston North End on Saturday.

The youngster was on target in the seventh minute as boss Graham Westley defeated his old club at the ABAX Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup.

Both of Samuelsen's goals for the Posh are a sign of things to come from the on-loan West Ham United midfielder, such have been the quality of his strikes.

The 18 year-old's 25-yard screamer in the victory over the Lilywhites was perhaps eclipsed by his wonderfully brilliant solo goal which defeated Sheffield United 3-2 in the league on January 2. The individual winner has been likened to something Barcelona star Lionel Messi produces regularly.

In an interview on Peterborough's official website, Sameulsen said of the his winner against the Blades: "To score a goal like I did (at Sheffield United) was a great feeling.

It's certainly the best goal I have scored in a long time. I was going to shoot earlier than I did, but then I saw two defenders coming out to block, so I checked and a gap opened up for me.

“The hear the noise of our supporters after I scored was a great experience, and one I hope to repeat."

Samuelsen repeated the does early in the home clash with Preston on the weekend, feigning to pass, before unleashing a left-footed effort from range to give his side the advantage prior to Conor Washington's 52nd-minute header which came from a lovely cross from Michael Smith who had been found by a laser pass from Samuelsen.

Hammers boss Slaven Billic will be monitoring the Norwegian's progress closely as Samuelsen looks to continue strutting his stuff in the third division until the end of the season.

Posh manager Westley will not want to see him injured as his ability to conjure up a moment of brilliance could be the difference between the Championship and League One next campaign as the club currently sits sixth on the league table.
