Livorno star Antonio Candreva insists his first Italy call-up came out of the blue.

The young midfielder has caught the eye of major clubs this season.

Speaking to Radio Incontro, Candreva said: "I didn't expect it. I still can't believe it. The Livorno staff informed me while we returned to Fiumicino. I was left gobsmacked.

"It's a wonderful thing to be part of a group of champions. The meet-up begins tomorrow and I cannot wait. This is my first year in Serie A.

"I have to once again thank Mister Lippi who has given me the chance to play in Azzurro."
