Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson admits he's joined Aston Villa on-loan with an eye on breaking into the England squad.

He said: "I spoke to Ray Clemence [McClaren's goalkeeping coach] and he said, 'It's a big season for you. You need to be playing regularly'.

"Hopefully, coming here [to Villa] will give me that opportunity. I knew I'd have no chance of playing for England if I was No 2 at Liverpool."
