Liverpool veteran Carragher: I can understand England fans booing

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says England fans had every right to boo after Friday's stalemate against Algeria.

Team-mate Wayne Rooney was captured on TV moaning "nice to see your own fans booing" after the dreadful, soulless, goalless draw with Algeria.

But Carragher, who will miss Wednesday's game after a second booking, will never put the boot into supporters who made their feelings known at the final whistle.

He said: "It's not as though they have only travelled around the corner to watch us.

"We're on the other side of the world and they have paid a lot of money and made a lot of effort to come and see us do well.

"We need to give them something to cheer about. I think we have to applaud the fans for the support they have given us and make sure we're here a lot longer."
