Liverpool to target defenders this summer

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will have defenders at the top of his wishlist in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have conceded 49 goals this season and have at times looked shaky at the back which has prompted the Northern Irishman to begin putting together a list of players he wants to bring to Anfield this offseason.

The Mirror suggests that Rodgers is keen on Schalke's Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Cardiff City's Steven Caulker who he managed at Swansea City.

There is also interest in Sporting Lisbon left-back Marcos Rojo but the Reds manager is prepared to offload Daniel Agger and Sebastian Coates in what could be an overhaul in the defensive third.

Liverpool basically gifted the Premier League title to Manchester City when squandering a three-goal lead to be held to a 3-3 draw by Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Merseyside club now sits just a point clear of City at the top of the table but the Eastlands outfit have two games to play while the Reds have just one.
