Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of England's opening Euro2016 qualifier against Switzerland.
The Liverpool striker will miss Monday's meeting with the Swiss in Basel after sustaining a knock in training on Friday which required a scan.
The English Football Association wrote in a statement: "Daniel Sturridge picked up an injury on his thigh in training. He has had a scan and will now return to Liverpool FC for treatment.
"He will play no part in the forthcoming Switzerland match."
Sturridge posted on Twitter that he was devastated to be missing the clash after performing well in Wednesday's 1-0 friendly win over Norway at Wembley.
Heartbroken soul right now believe me. Hopefully be back soon fighting fit for LFC. Nothing worse than being injured. My heads gone...
