Following a frustrating scoreless draw with Fulham, Liverpool's top-four chances now look very slim.
The point saw the Reds fall to six behind fourth-placed Manchester City who had a 5-1 win over Birmingham and manager Rafael Benitez conceded that the Champions League spot had almost passed his team by.
"It is not in our hands, it depends on the other teams and the difference is too much now, maybe," he said.
"We have to keep going because it is always important to do your best and try to finish as high as possible."
Benitez said his focus would now turn to winning other silverware in Europe and although he planned to win the remaining four league games, he knew it would be a tough ask.
"We will try to win the rest of the games and try to win the Europa League," he added.
"It will now be very difficult, we have to be realistic.
"As a manager you have to believe and support your team. We have to keep going."
