Liverpool may have won a famous court victory this week but on the pitch were it matters they failed again, losing 2-0 in the Merseyside derby to Everton at Goodison Park. Everton fully deserved their victory with goals in each half from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta and will be delighted that their local rivals remain in the Premiership bottom three.
Liverpool barely rose above the mediocre as the Toffees comfortably claimed the spoils against a Reds outfit who showed little urgency considering the passionate nature of this clash.
Fernando Torres and Joe Cole went close for the visitor's but overall even the energetic prompting of Steven Gerrard was not enough as Everton rarely looked in trouble.
Tim Cahill opened the scoring just after the half hour with a stinging shot, then just after the break the points were sealed as Mikel Arteta fired home from 20 yards.
Liverpool did try and step up the pressure but, by the end of 90 minutes, Everton were comfortable winners.
