Liverpool to play CL game on neutral ground

Liverpool's Champions League match with Atletico Madrid will be played at a neutral venue after the Spanish side were handed a stadium ban. Atletico are being punished for crowd trouble, which included racist abuse, before, during, and after their last Champions League match with Marseille and have been told by UEFA that they must play their next two Champions League matches at least 300kms away from Madrid.

Uefa said the punishment could be extended to a third home match should there be further trouble at the club within a five-year probationary period.

Atletico have also been fined 150,000 euros and their coach Javier Aguirre has been banned for both matches with Liverpool for abusing Marseille players.

The club have until October 17 to appeal the decision.
