Liverpool linked with Brazilian keeper Cavalieri

26-year-old Cavalieri has been at the Alviverde since 2001, and has made 104 appearances for Palmeiras. It is understood that Cavalieri has been to Europe to secure a work permit, and that Anfield will be the destination of the shot-stopper, according to some reports.

Palmeiras sporting director Genaro Martin has confirmed that several of Europe's top clubs are interested in Cavalieri, with it believed that Rafa Benitez's Liverpool along with Serie A side Fiorentina and Portuguese club Benfica to be the front-runners.

However Martin is unable to say who the club is that Palmeiras are talking to.

"A transfer is being discussed, the way to pay, etc," Martin told UOL Esporte.

"We'll look to go further tomorrow because there's not just one team interested.

"We have signed a document with the team that forces us to keep their name secret, that's why we can't reveal it at the moment.

"They came to speak to me, to Palmeiras, and the negotiations are in progress".
