Liverpool legends Souness and Carragher reject Salah dive claims

Liverpool legends Graeme Souness and Jamie Carragher defended Mohamed Salah against accusations he dived to win a penalty in Sunday's 2-0 win at Cardiff City.

The Reds moved back to the top of the Premier League thanks to the victory against Cardiff City as Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner netted goals.

Liverpool 's second goal of the afternoon came after Sean Morrison brought Salah down in the penalty box. Cardiff boss Neil Warnock would later compare the Reds striker to Olympic diver Tom Daley.

But Souness told Sky Sports: "He gave Salah an invitation to go down. It wasn't a split second thing.

"Ultimately he is going down there because he can't get away from him."

Carragher went further in his defence of Salah and even suggested that if he was Morrison, he would be blaming himself for the mistake.

"The defender gets too tight," Carragher told Sky Sports. "Mo Salah makes the most of it at the end but is it a foul? Yes.

"As a defender you can't wrap your arms around his neck.

"If that was me I would be thinking about what I was doing."
