Liverpool legend Souness: Man Utd not yet capable of winning title

Graeme Souness suggests Manchester United are a little way off winning the Premier League title.

When assessing United's 2014/15 campaign, former Liverpool star Souness believes that the Red Devils will have to endure another fruitless season before they are ready to launch a genuine challenge on the English top flight trophy.

"United would have to have a big, big season (to win the title) and I don't think they are capable of that," Souness said on Sky Sports.

"It's OK saying: 'we need to strengthen here and we need to strengthen there'. It is all right if you can get them.

"The type of players Manchester United will be going for will be top players playing at top clubs. That's the level that will improve them and they might not all be available.

"You might get one out of the four you want, two out of five perhaps but you're not going to make all you changes in one go."

Louis van Gaal's first season in charge at Old Trafford yielded a fourth-place finish for United who were 17 points behind champions Chelsea.
