Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson feels Manchester United stars Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are inspiring eachother.

Lawro wrote in the Mirror: "He and Robin van Persie are on the same wavelength and what we can see happening with them is what you get when you pair two class players - they inspire each other.

"Sir Alex Ferguson must be licking his lips when he sees them in such fantastic form because he is getting exactly the response from Rooney that he had hoped for when he brought Van Persie in.

"People say that it has been a long time since Rooney has dominated games for England and maybe they are right.

"But for Manchester United he has played in so many positions yet time and again he has delivered.

"Football is all about partnerships and United have had so many devastating ones over the years.

"Looking at this one they can be anything they want to be. There are exciting times ahead."
