Liverpool legend Lawro says Chelsea striker Torres back to best

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes Fernando Torres is back at his best with Chelsea.

Lawro wrote in the Mirror: "It looks to me like Fernando Torres could be back to his best at long last - I thought he was excellent in Chelsea's win over Manchester City.

"He's got the hunger back, and also half a yard of pace. He missed an easy chance early on and could easily have let his head drop - but he didn't.

"If Torres' improvement continues then it will be a godsend for Jose Mourinho.

"I know Torres has only started three Premier League games for the Londoners this season, but he played in the Champions League in midweek and then kept his place for yesterday.

"Maybe Mourinho has looked at him and thought, 'This lad is on the way back'.

"It has taken him a while and it has never been clear whether his problems at Chelsea have been mental or physical.

"The Spaniard seems to be the sort of person who needs to know he is No.1 at a club - he definitely needs the carrot not the stick - and maybe the Special One is giving that to him."
