Liverpool legend Fowler: No problem if gay footballers came out today

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler feels there wouldn't be a problem if a current player came out publicly.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger announced last week that he is gay.

Fowler told BBC's Football Focus: "Certainly it wouldn't be a problem in a dressing room now. I don't think it would be a problem on the terraces now."

During a match in 1997, Fowler taunted Graeme Le Saux as being gay - he is not - and has recently apologised.

Talking about the Le Saux incident he added: "If things happen on a pitch the thing is you learn from it and I know I certainly have."
