Liverpool left-back Robertson knocks off Everton hero Baines' Prem record

Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson surpassed Everton legend Leighton Baines to become the defender with the most assists in the Premier League.

Robertson got the honor after he set up Mohamed Salah brilliantly in the first half of their 3-1 win against Aston Villa in the league on Monday.

Robertson is now at the very top of that list, with fellow Reds full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in third spot.

Both are all but certain to end their careers as no.1 and no.2, leaving it up to future generations to try and surpass those numbers.

Speaking on commentary for Amazon Prime Video, Andy Townsend said of Robertson's assist against Villa: "What a stunning ball that is from Trent Alexander-Arnold with the outside of his boot. He's the last man [defending the corner] when that ball comes to him.

"Most would've put the ball back into the area, hit the penalty spot, [but] watch the delivery, absolutely sensational. He can put it in the box but he thought, 'Nah, outside of the foot'. Wonderful ball."
